Margaret Jenelle Gardner Whaley Rapier Bramblett died September 25, 2017 in North Carolina of complications from strokes and had lived with her current husband Curt in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, and Lancaster, SC. She was born in Lancaster on January 1, 1932, to Carroll and Rena Gardner.

She was a member of Westminster-By-The Sea Presbyterian Church in Daytona Beach Shores and an associate member of Reformation Lutheran Church in Lancaster.

Jenelle graduated, in 1949, in the first senior class of Lancaster High School to have 12 grades. After her retirement from the South Carolina Department of Social Services, she continued to be active in Lancaster in the Red Rose Book Club, the Moose Lodge Bridge Club, Cub Scouts, Springs Memorial Hospital Volunteer Services, the Lancaster Democratic Party, and Ladies of the Moose. She and Curt met at a meeting of the Sierra Club. She also was a member of the Northeast Florida Jazz Association, and some of her thoroughbred horses ran in the Kentucky Derby.

She was married to Jack Donald Whaley of Lancaster in 1950. He preceded her in death in 1982. Their beloved son Kenneth Carlton Whaley preceded her in death in 1983.

She was married to Don Bert Rapier of Lancaster in 1985 and he preceded her in death in 1998.

She was also preceded by her parents Carroll Hilton Gardner and Rena Robinson Gardner, also of Lancaster.

Jenelle is survived by her husband of 16 years, Curtis P. Bramblett and by her son Jack Donald Whaley, Jr., and his wife Sandra Abercrombie Whaley of Lancaster. Also by stepsons James Bramblett (Gina) and Nik Bramblett, both of Rock Hill, SC; stepdaughter Cynthia Bramblett Sheridan (Raoul) of Norfolk, VA; daughter-in-law Deborah Long (Whaley) Edwards of Charlotte; and goddaughter Jessica Joy Boling Hicks of Charlotte.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017, at the Historic Springs House, 201 W. Gay St., Lancaster, with the Rev. Gene Baker, pastor of Reformation Lutheran Church, 508 N. French St., Lancaster, SC 29720, presiding. A service will also be held on a future date at Westminster By-The-Sea Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), 3221 S. Peninsula Drive, Daytona Beach Shores, FL 32118-6240, with Dr. Jeff Sumner presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either church; or to the Sierra Club Foundation, 85 Second Street, 2d Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105; or to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th St, Charlotte, NC 28204; or to the Lancaster County Council of the Arts, 201 W. Gay St., Lancaster, SC 29720.

Burgess Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting Mrs. Bramblett’s family, who are grateful for all the love and prayers she received during her final journey.
