James L. 'Jim' Sanders, Sr



LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. James Lavonne “Jim” Sanders, Sr., age 68, passed away at his home Friday, September 8, 2017. He was the son of the late George Sanders and Maude Adams Sanders and the husband of Myra Lloyd Sanders. Jim was a retired auto body repairman and served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He loved Bluegrass music and played in several Bluegrass bands. He played guitar and doghouse bass. Jim also enjoyed golf and camping. He loved his grandchildren and looked forward to doing things for them. He was a lifetime member of the Wannamaker Masonic Lodge and a former Shriner with the Hejaz Shrine Temple. Jim was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.

Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Myra Lloyd Sanders; two sons, James Lavonne Sanders, Jr. and his wife, Crystal and Jeffery Palmer Sanders and his wife, Nikki; two brothers, Bert Sanders and his wife, Pearleane and Donnie Sanders; a sister, Linda Sanders; and four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Sanders, Connor Sanders, Hailey Sanders and Ashtyn Sanders.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, David Sanders and Tim Sanders.

The Celebration of Jim’s life will be 3:00pm Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Hopewell United Methodist Church with Rev. Candace Sloan and Rev. Jessie Adams officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Saturday evening, September 9, 2017 at Burgess Funeral Home and suggest memorial contributions be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church, 3734 Heyward Hough Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or to PruittHealth Hospice, 118 York Street, Chester, SC 29706.
