LANCASTER, SC – Scott "Yank" Anthony Schaeffer, 69, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at MUSC Columbia. Scott was born, October 10, 1956, in Hempstead, NY. He graduated from high school and joined the US Navy. After his service to his country, he worked with the Barnum and Bailey Circus which led him to South Carolina in 1976. Yank was a dedicated member of Moose Lodge 1646 since 2018.

He enjoyed woodworking and spent many years in construction, and most recently worked at Builders Supply for 10 years. More than that he enjoyed spending time with his grandbabies. Yank was a benevolent man and would help anyone he could.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Ronda Schaeffer; son, Scott “Pete” Schaeffer, Jr. (Chassity) Schaeffer; step-sons, Bobby (Michelle) Mahaffey and Jamie Whitaker; step-daughters, Amanda (Dean) Dobransky, Angie (David) Owens, and Cheryl Whitaker; grandchildren, Aron, Lilly, Caroline, Kate, and Reece; brother, Michael (Jaclyn) DiVirgilio; niece, Angelina; and nephew, Nicholas.

Yank was preceded in death by a grandson, Rocky Schaeffer.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Yank will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Danny Martin. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m Monday, June 22, 2026, at Burgess Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorials may be made to Taylors Grove Baptist Church, 2382 Charlotte Hwy., Lancaster, SC 29720 or Lancaster SPCA, P.O. Box 3042, Lancaster, SC 29721.
