Obituary


LANCASTER, SC:::::::::: Mr. Winford "Wink" E. McAteer, age 95, died Friday, December 12, 2014. He was born February 5, 1919 in Lancaster, SC, the son of the late Oscar Lee McAteer and Mary Agnes Williams McAteer and was the husband of Lillian Carroll McAteer. Mr. McAteer retired from Springs Industries. He served our great country in the United States Army, during the World War II era. Mr. McAteer was a member of Zion United Methodist Church of Lancaster. He loved farming, and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was known as the Captain at BoJangles where he had his daily breakfast.

Mr. McAteer is survived by his wife Lillian Carroll McAteer, three daughters, Dianne Sweatt and her husband Billy of Lancaster, Janice Bowers of Etowah, NC and Judy Payne of Lancaster, 5 grandchildren Corey Payne, Chad Payne, Scott White, Gina Burn and Dustin Sweatt and 15 great grandchildren.

Mr. McAteer was preceeded in death by 2 son in laws Max Bowers and Mike Payne a great grandchild Chandler Payne 3 brothers, Caldwell McAteer, John McAteer, and Robert McAteer, 5 sisters, Dora Rollins, Lucille Rollins, Melinda Catoe, Lois Gay, and Irene McAteer.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. McAteer will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 14, 2014 at Zion United Methodist Church of Lancaster. The Rev. Mike Burgess will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at the Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The Family of Mr. McAteer will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Sunday at Zion United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, 1665 Zion Road, Lancaster SC 29720.
