Obituary

VAN WYCK, SC::::::::Miss Wilma Luna Starnes, age 92, died Monday, November 2, 2015 at White Oak Manor. She was born November 2, 1923 in Van Wyck, a daughter of the late Fred Franklin Starnes and Mamie Dallas Courtney Starnes. Miss Starnes began her working career at the Shell Plant in Pineville during World War II where she made shells for the war. She later worked for Chadbourn Gotham Hosiery Company and Ivey's Department store in the payroll department and later retired from Mecklenburg County. She loved the outdoors, bird watching and gardening. She was a lifelong member of Van Wyck United Methodist Church where, she taught Sunday School and provided fresh flowers every Sunday for many years.

Miss Starnes is survived by a brother, Keith Starnes and his wife, Carolyn of Van Wyck; seven nieces, Cathy Yoder Mathis, Pattie Yoder Awbrey, Janice Yoder Smith, Denise Harper Barnes, Penny Moore Faulkenberry, Anne Moore Taylor and Tricia Friberg Gerak; four nephews, Bob Yoder, Keith Starnes, Jr., Kyle Starnes and Mark Starnes and many grand nieces and nephews.

Miss Starnes was preceded in death by three brothers, Kermit Starnes, Frank Starnes and Raeford Starnes and four sisters, Edith Starnes Moore, Eunice Starnes Yoder, Beulah Starnes Friberg and Jackie Starnes Harper.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Miss Starnes will be 3:00 pm, Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Van Wyck United Methodist Church by Rev. Doug Chambers. Burial will follow in Van Wyck United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The Family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 2:00 - 3:00 pm, in the Linder Building of the church and suggest memorial contributions be made to Van Wyck United Methodist Church, PO Box 7, Van Wyck, SC 29744.
