Obituary

LANCASTER, SCRev. William Bill James Morgan, Sr., age 75, died Wednesday, February 24, 2016. He was born May 19, 1940 in Lancaster, a son of the late Broadus Jefferson Morgan, Sr. and Ruby Odell Johnson Morgan and was the husband of Leona Newton Morgan. Rev. Morgan was a contractor and builder. He was a beekeeper and gardener, loved woodworking and birdwatching. He was a Man of God and very proud of being an ordained minister. He carried his building talents over into his ministry building churches from the inside out and served in the ministry for 24 years. He always believed in a good foundation. With the Lords help, he built three churches, Landmark Pentecostal Holiness Church, Winnsboro Pentecostal Holiness Church and Canaan Land Ministries. He enjoyed working with the Royal Rangers and his FCF name was Big Buffalo. He was honored by the SCIPHC as Pastor of the Year. He loved all people but especially loved his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Rev. Morgan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Leona Newton Morgan; a daughter, Jan Morgan Hancock and her husband, Larry; a daughter in law, Sandra Morgan; three grandchildren, Casey Hancock Catoe and her husband, Scott, Josh Hancock and his wife, Jessica and Andrew Morgan; six great grandchildren, Michaela Catoe, Lily Hancock, Grey Catoe, Leo Hancock, Rose Hancock and Caleb Hancock; a brother, Broadus Morgan, Jr. and his wife, Roxie; and a sister, Betty Catoe and her husband, Corzine all of Lancaster.
Rev. Morgan was preceded in death by a son, Jamie Morgan.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Rev. Morgan will be 2:00 pm, Monday, February 29, 2016 at Canaan Land Ministries by Bishop Greg Amos, Rev. Dean Morgan, Rev. John David Canty, Rev. Brian Barton and Pastor Larry Hancock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 pm Sunday evening, February 28, 2016 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster and suggest memorial contributions be made to Canaan Land Ministries, Cemetery Fund for Black Fence, 4958 Taxahaw Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
