Obituary

LANCASTER, SC::::::::: Mr. William "Bill" Freeman Monts, Jr., age 87, died Thursday, April 19, 2012 at his home. He was born October 25, 1924 in Lancaster County, the son of the late William Freeman Monts, Sr. and Louise Caskey Monts and was the husband of the late Lucille Rodgers Monts. Mr. Monts retired from Ryall-Caskey Sales Company and Davis Dry Cleaners and was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He loved people and never met a stranger and he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and cooking, spending time at Garden City Beach, USC Gamecocks and was proud to have been a Mason and Shriner for 50 years. Mr. Monts served our great country in the United States Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during World War II aboard the USS Enright Destroyer Escort. Mr. Monts is survived by a son, William "Bill" Monts, III and his wife Carolyn of Lancaster, a daughter Amelia M. Davis and her husband Ken of Lancaster, a sister, Dorothy M. Castles of Surfside Beach, 3 grandchildren, Kelly Monts, Susan D. Smith and her husband Scott and Andy Davis and great grandchild, Lindsey Smith. Mr. Monts was preceded in death by a sister, Laura M. Fleming. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Monts will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, April 22, 2012 at St. Luke United Methodist Church by Rev. Kyle Randall. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery. The Family of Mr. Monts will receive friends from 1:30 - 2:30 pm, Sunday, April 22, 2012 in the Leisure Ministry Center and in lieu of flowers suggests memorial contributions to St. Luke United Methodist Church or Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
