TAXAHAW, SC::::::::: Mr. William Bill Alford Byrd, age 81, died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at his home. He was born June 15, 1935 in Charlotte, NC, the son of the late Walter W. Byrd and Adavele Burke Byrd and was the husband of Patsy Mundy Byrd. Mr. Byrd retired after 55 years from Brown & Sharpe of Providence, Rhode Island. In his younger years, Mr. Byrd was a private pilot and loved to fly, played golf and rode dirt bikes. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and riding his tractor. He was an outdoors person that enjoyed dove hunting and fishing. He recently joined the Charlotte Astronomy Group that met at the Taxahaw Observatory. Mr. Byrd loved his family, especially his grandchildren and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patsy Mundy Byrd; two sons, William Thomas Tom Byrd and Johnny Lynn Byrd and his wife, Sheri; three grandchildren, Esther Laura Esty Byrd, Joshua Luke Byrd and Amy Renee Byrd; and one great grandchild, Daniel Luke Byrd.

Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Betty Joe McCorkle and Alice Fitz Etters.

The Celebration of Life Graveside Funeral Service for Mr. Byrd will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at the Byrd Family Cemetery by Rev. Rodney Nicholson. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Taxahaw Baptist Church, 1876 Overbrook Road, Kershaw, SC 29067
