LANCASTER, SC ~ Charles "Wayne" Davis, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.  Wayne was born July 19, 1941 in Buffalo Mills, PA.  He was a son of the late Earl G. Davis and Mary Laverne Bowen Davis and was the husband of Kathy Jean Fortney Davis.  Wayne graduated from Cumberland Valley High School in 1959 and continued his education at Elizabethtown College where he graduated in 1963.  He then began his teaching career at Swatara Jr. High (part of Central Dauphin School District).  Early in his teaching career, he received grants from the National Science Foundation to attend several universities including Arizona State, University of California at Berkeley, Boston University and ending with a Master's Degree from Millersville University in Pennsylvania.  He coached wrestling for many years at Swatara and was an assistant football coach a few years as well.  Wayne was a Mason, an avid golfer, loved all outdoor activities, and enjoyed model railroads.  After retiring from teaching, Wayne relocated to Sun City Carolina Lakes where he lived for 11 years; then moved to a country home below Lancaster, SC.  He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending as much time with them as he could.  Wayne was a member of Osceola United Methodist Church.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathy Davis; a son, Ryan Davis (Tonya); three grandchildren, Landon, Caitlynn, and Charlotte Davis; a sister, Loretta Hoffman; a niece, Deborah Hoffman; and a large extended family.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert Davis.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Wayne will be 12:00 pm Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Osceola United Methodist Church.  Interment to follow at the church columbarium.
