IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wayne
Ballard
October 8, 1951 – April 18, 2025
LANCASTER, SC – James Wayne Ballard, seventy-three, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 18, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
Wayne was born on October 8, 1951, to Max and Reba (Cauthen) Ballard in Lancaster, South Carolina. From birth, his family observed that he was "loved by all who knew him". Although he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the age of twelve, Wayne fought the disease courageously, never complaining about his daily battle against health issues throughout his life.
Wayne's "quick wit," remembered by all who knew him well, and his incredible memory for sharing every story's detail prompted his father's early comment… Wayne "tells it like it is!"
Throughout life, Wayne maintained a special interest in and acquired knowledge of automobiles and mechanics. His son Casey states that his expertise was "nothing short of amazing!" But in addition to various special interests, Wayne followed his father's career path in the Gas and Oil business! He was admired by many for his knowledge from his career in Gas and Oil companies, to this date.
Wayne is survived by his devoted and loving wife of nearly fifty-three years, Deborah. As their son says, "Where you saw one, you saw the other" as they enjoyed life together. "Their favorite spot was right there on their front porch, watching the world go by."
Wayne is survived by his only son, James Casey; and his "bonus son-in-law" David-A-Ghent; and his mother-in-law, Alice Cairnes.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents (above), his father-in-law, MJ(Bud) Cairnes, and his grandparents, James Leroy and Willie Ballard, and Clyde and Nannie Cauthen.
A graveside service honoring Wayne Ballard will be held at Memorial Park on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 11 am. Visitation with the family will be held immediately following the graveside service.
The family expresses sincerest gratitude for the compassionate care he received recently from the team at Davita Dialysis, Carolina Podiatry, Mackey Family Practice and Hospice of Lancaster and the Piedmont.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lancaster and the Piedmont, Lancaster SPCA or to one's choice in memory of Wayne.
