LANCASTER, SC :::::::: Mr. Walker Barrett, age 85, died Thursday, September 12, 2013 at his home. He was born May 9, 1928 in Chesterfield County, a son of the late James Walker Barrett and Dosia Watts Barrett and was the husband of Virginia Hancock Barrett. He enjoyed reading his Bible, going to the mountains, working outside and in his garden, and spending time with his wife and family. He retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Good News Outreach Church.
Mr. Barrett is survived by his wife, Virginia Barrett of the home, two sons, David Barrett and his wife Scarlett of Rock Hill and Tom Barrett and his wife Mary of Indian Land, three step-sons, James Thomas of Lancaster, Benjamin Thomas of Heath Springs and Roger Thomas and his wife Angie of Lancaster, a daughter, Cathy Reddick of Nashville, TN, five step-daughters, Mildred Eason of Lancaster, Kentucky, Becky Stein and her husband Mike of Heath Springs, Maude Dean Gainey, Naye Dean Revels and her husband Robert and Sarah Walden and her husband Jim all of Lancaster, 33 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by a son, Virgil Barrett, a step-daughter, Faye Dean Knight and a grandson, Roger Eugene Thomas II.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Barrett will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, September 14, 2013 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Brian Barton, Rev. Eddie Usher and Rev. William Ferguson. Burial will follow at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Family of Mr. Barrett will receive friends one hour before the service, from 2:00 - 3:00 pm at the funeral home and suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Drive, Columbia, SC 29210 or to Good News Outreach Church.
