LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Vernon B. "Buck" Hudson, age 82, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018 at his home.  He was born November 12, 1936 in Lancaster, a son of the late John Leroy Hudson, Sr. and Bessie Jane Hinson Hudson and is the husband of Helen Todd Hudson.  He retired from Springs Industries – Grace Bleachery after 40 years of service. Mr. Hudson enjoyed gardening and loved sports.  He coached the ladies in church softball and the Springs Industries lady's softball team, who were undefeated seven years in a row. He also coached the B Team in basketball and football and the RA baseball team.  Mr. Hudson served on the Board of Directors for Buford Fire Department and was a Lifetime Mason with the Wannamaker Masonic Lodge.  He loved his grandchildren and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Mr. Hudson is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Todd Hudson; a son, Rocky Hudson and his wife, Michele; three daughters, Molly Mills and her husband, Michael, Sandy Cauthen and her husband, Reece and Robin Vecchio and her husband, Doug; seven grandchildren, Amanda Wyatt (Dale), Cale Mills (April), Keith Mills, April Esposito (Robert), Kimberly Cauthen, Nicole Hudson, and Alan Hudson; nine great grandchildren, Gracie and Easton Mills, Caroline and Mary Vecchio, Giovanni, Vincent and Dominic Esposito, Iver and Owen Cauthen;  a brother, John L. Hudson, Jr. and his wife, Ollie; and two sisters, Monnie Deason and Vevian Cassady.

Mr. Hudson was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James Leroy Hudson, J.W. Hudson and James M. "Doc" Hudson; and three sisters, Nannie Stogner, Betty Rodgers and Bessie Carroll.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Hudson will be 11:00 am, Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Bethlehem Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Gary Harris.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Burgess Funeral Home and other times at the home.  For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 N.
