LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Vera Gainer Broughton, age 96, passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024. She was born January 5, 1928, in Lancaster, SC, daughter of the late Jackson "Jack" Gainer and Connie Caskey Gainer and was the loving wife of the late James William Broughton. Mrs. Broughton enjoyed gardening, working in her flowers, sewing, baking, crocheting, traveling-especially on day trips, and most of all spending time with her great grandsons. She was a member of the Springs Club. Mrs. Broughton was a lifelong member of Camp Creek United Methodist Church where she was a member of the UMW and the choir.
Mrs. Broughton is survived by her two daughters, Barbara McGee and Joyce Moseff (Mike); grandson, David Riggins (Ashley); two great grandsons, Henry Riggins and Charlie Riggins; sister, Anne Caskey (Ed); and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Broughton; her parents, James and Connie Gainer; brother, James Gainer; son-in-law, Kenneth McGee; and sister-in-law, Nora Gainer.
The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Mrs. Broughton will be 1:00 pm Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Camp Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery officiated by David Riggins, Michael Burgess, and JC Dawkins.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Creek United Methodist Church, 4721 Great Falls Hwy., Lancaster, SC 29720.
Mrs. Broughton's family would like to extend a special thanks to Julia Waits, Greta Clyburn, and Mark Williams for their unconditional love and help for caring for Mrs. Vera.
