LANCASTER, SC ~ Tara Cameron Steele of Lancaster went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 14, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving husband, sons, and parents. Her strength, grace, and unwavering faith were a testament to the beautiful soul she was.

Born and raised in Lancaster, Tara was a 2001 graduate of Lancaster High School and earned her degree from Winthrop University in 2005. She dedicated her life to shaping young minds as a teacher in the Lancaster County School District, where she served joyfully for 13 years at Brooklyn Springs, Buford, and Heath Springs Elementary schools. Her love for her students was evident in everything she did.

Throughout her journey with cancer, Tara was never hesitant to share the struggles and triumphs of her battle. Her openness and courage inspired everyone who crossed her path, as she showed what it meant to face life's challenges with unwavering faith and love.

Tara had a heart full of music and a spirit full of joy. She loved to sing – whether in worship or just around the house – and those who knew her will never forget her warm, distinctive laugh that could light up any room. Her kindness, humor, and gentle strength left a lasting impact on all who had the blessing of knowing her.

Tara is survived by her devoted husband of 19 years, Brian Franklin Steele, and their two beloved sons, Joseph Franklin Steele (16) and James Cameron Steele (13), both of the home. She is also survived by her loving parents, Lloyd and Kathy Cameron of Lancaster, SC, and her in-laws, Jack and Becky Steele, also of Lancaster.

While her time on this earth was far too short, Tara's legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Tara will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 18, 2025 at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Jessie Adams. Private burial will follow at Steele Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at Burgess Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Dale Baptist Church, 133 S. Potter Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
