LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Sylvia Jean Flynn Steele, age 82, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022. She was born January 20, 1940, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Charlie Flynn and the late Wilma McManus Flynn and was the wife of the late Rayford Lewis Steele. Mrs. Steele was employed with Springs Industries for 21 years. After leaving Springs, her greatest joy was keeping children in her home. She enjoyed working in her flowers, watching her hummingbirds, and having family time.  She was a devoted wife and mother and loved her family dearly. Mrs. Steele also loved her dogs and her grandpups. She was a member of Bethel UMC where she was very active as a Sunday School Teacher, singing in the choir, and serving on various committees.

Mrs. Steele is survived by her son, Jeff Steele; her daughter, Vicki Siewers (Jim); two grandchildren, Anna Cate and Madison Wojtkowski; many nieces and nephews; and extended family, Aaron Wojtkowski and Rocky and Sandra Lucas.

Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Rayford Steele, her parents; two brothers, Chalmers Flynn and Conrad "Doc" Flynn; and her sister, Margie Horton.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Steele will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Della Hunsucker. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home.
