PAWLEY’S ISLAND, SC ~ Sylvia Boone Caroway, 84, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at NHC Skilled Nursing Facility in Garden City, SC, surrounded by family and friends. Born June 20, 1941, in Micaville, NC, Sylvia’s life was centered on family, faith, and home.

For 45 years she was a devoted wife and a loving stay-at-home mother who poured her heart into raising her three sons and making a warm, welcoming home. She treasured family gatherings, sharing meals at the kitchen table, and caring for her grandchildren. Even as dementia gradually took hold, Sylvia kept her spunk and sense of humor, bringing laughter to staff and visitors at NHC — who loved her deeply and mourned her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoy and Nola Boone; her husband, Jack Caroway; and brothers Alvin, Bruce, and Wallace Boone.

Sylvia is lovingly survived by her sons Jack Caroway of Duffield, VA; Roger Caroway and his wife Sarah of Clemmons, NC; and Shane Caroway and his wife Brandy of Pawleys Island, SC. Also left to cherish her memory are her sister Gladys Hughes of Micaville, NC; niece Rita Ray and husband Mickie of Micaville; nephew Steve Boone and wife Lois of North Wilkesboro; nine grandchildren — Megan Caroway, Katie Glacken, Michael Caroway, Jordan Caroway, Hallie Caroway, Cameron Caroway, Elizabeth Caroway, Jackson Caroway and Joshua Caroway — and three great-grandchildren, Grace Glacken, Sophia Glacken and Walker Caroway.

A graveside service to celebrate Sylvia’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, June 22, at Lancaster Memorial Park Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Jimmy Hilton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family welcomes memories and messages of condolence as they honor a gentle woman whose love and kindness touched all who knew her.
