LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Susan Plyler Baker, affectionately known as "Sassy", was 72 years old when she passed away on February 17, 2025. She was always the light of the room and greeted everyone with a smile.  She loved her flowers, gardening, and was always happiest around Christmas.  She was born on September 25, 1952, in Lancaster, SC.  After graduating from Lancaster High School in 1970, her calling became teaching. Susan received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Winthrop College and then went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina with a Master's Degree in Education.  She was a first grade teacher for 32 years for Lancaster County Schools, and because of her efforts, hundreds of children learned how to read and write.

Susan was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, as well as the Palmetto Study Club and the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority. After her teaching career, she became a member of the Lancaster County Retired Educators.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Dale Plyler and Matrell Connell Plyler.

She is survived by her husband, Robert John Baker "Bobby"; sons, Jonathan (Julie) and David (Tiffany); three grandchildren, Scarlet, Evan and Olivia; and her brother, Mark Grayson Plyler. Susan lived a full, wonderful life and will always be in our hearts and memories.  We love you always.

The Celebration of Susan's life will be 3:00 pm Saturday, February 22, 2025, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Neal Woods.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
