CATAWBA, SC:::::::::::: Mrs. Sue Smith Griswold, age 52, died Sunday, January 25, 2009 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill. She was born February 17, 1956 in Sylvester, Georgia, the daughter of Irene Walters Smith and the late Joe Smith and was the wife of John Andrew Griswold. Mrs. Griswold graduated from Valdosta State College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Astronomy and Physics after receiving a full Ty Cobb Scholarship. She received her Masters Degree in Science Education from UNCC - Charlotte. She was the first Director of the Planetarium at the Museum of York County and retired from Discovery Place in Charlotte after eighteen years of service as the Director of Programs in Education. She was of the Baptist faith.Mrs. Griswold is survived by her husband John Andrew Griswold of the home, her mother, Irene Walters Smith, 3 brothers, Jimmie Smith of Panama City, Florida, Johnny Smith of Doe Run, Georgia, and Randy Smith.Mrs. Griswold was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Nell Gorley. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Griswold will be held in the National Cemetery in Beaufort, South Carolina at a later date. The Family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the York County Humane Society.
