EASTOVER, SC ~ Mrs. Dorothy Sue Lucas Carnes, age 76, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020.  She was born April 4, 1943 in Lancaster, SC, a daughter of the late William L. Lucas and Myrtle Plyler Lucas and was the wife of the late James C. Carnes.  Mrs. Carnes enjoyed reading, painting, word puzzles, and shopping which she referred to as "Retail Therapy".  She loved her cat "Purty" and she loved her grandchildren and great granddaughter and enjoyed every moment she could with them.  Pepsi was her favorite drink and she also made sure she had plenty.  She was very sassy, and you always knew where you stood with her.  Mrs. Carnes grew up in humble beginnings and was very proud of who she was and where she came from.

Mrs. Carnes is survived by a son, Patrick L. Carnes of Kershaw, SC; two daughters, Jodie A. Carnes (Robert Cross) of Eastover, SC and Mica C. Brakefield (Reid) of Rock Hill, SC; five grandchildren, Halee C. Ellis (Cody), Kendal C. Williams (Samuel), Mary Carson Carnes-Thomson, McKae Carnes-Thomson, and Cameron Brakefield; a great granddaughter, Jaycee Sowell; and two brothers, Michael Lucas of Lancaster, and William L. Lucas of Washington.

Mrs. Carnes was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Carnes; her parents; and a brother, Patrick Donovan Lucas.

The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Mrs. Carnes will be private.
