LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Sue Hunter Bailey, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and lifelong educator, transitioned peacefully into the arms of her Savior on April 30, 2026, at the age of 81. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.

Born on December 7, 1944, in Lancaster, SC to the late Robert S. “R.S.” and Lennie Langley Hunter, Sue’s life was defined by her devotion to others and her unwavering faith. For 62 years, she walked hand-in-hand with the love of her life, Wayne A. Bailey, building a home and a legacy rooted in love and loyalty.

A gifted educator, Sue spent many years teaching within the Lancaster County School District. She did more than instruct; she inspired, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of countless students who will long remember her kindness and mentorship. Her nurturing spirit was evident from her youth, when she served in the nursery at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, and it continued throughout her life as a faithful member of Second Baptist Church.

Those who knew Sue will fondly remember her vibrant personality and her penchant for style as she found great joy in the hunt for the perfect piece of jewelry or a beautiful new outfit. Yet, her greatest treasures were never material; they were found in the moments spent with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandson.

Her memory will be forever held by her devoted husband, Wayne A. Bailey; her children, Leigh Bailey Sullivan (Ike) of Murrells Inlet, SC, and Len Hunter Bailey (Olivia) of Clemmons, NC; her beloved grandchildren, Amber Anthony (Onterrio), Kevin Sides, and Hunter Bailey (Amanda); and her great-grandson, Amari Anthony. She also leaves behind her brother, Anthony “Waldo” Hunter (Marsha); her niece, Michelle Hunter; and her nephew, Joshua Hunter (Jennifer).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by those who paved her way to glory.

In honor of Sue’s lifelong commitment to her faith and community, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Second Baptist Church.
