FORT LAWN, SC ~ Shirley McPherson Reeves Smith, age 92, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 26, 2026, after a battle against Alzheimer’s. She was born on August 19, 1934, in Lancaster, SC, a daughter of the late Elijah and Ruth McPherson.

Shirley lived a life marked by love, generosity, and a genuine desire to do for others. She cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Shirley was the kind of person who would gladly give you the last she had. She would go to work with only fifty cents for a drink for herself, but if someone else needed it, she would give it to them without a second thought. Whether she knew you or not, Shirley had a heart for people and found a way to help whenever she could.

Independent and resourceful, Shirley had a special way of making something out of almost nothing. She could take a dollar and somehow turn it into ten, always finding a way to make things work. She was a retired accountant and later enjoyed a second retirement after many years of service with Walmart.

In her free time, Shirley enjoyed reading, working Sudoku and word searches, and keeping up with her favorite gossip magazines. She loved taking trips and vacations, especially cruises, and treasured a special trip to Opryland with her best friend, Jo. She found joy in tending to her flower garden, listening to music, and, of course, finding the perfect pair of shoes.

Above all, Shirley simply loved life. She loved her family, loved helping others, and appreciated the little things that made each day special. Her generous spirit, independent nature, and love for those around her will remain a beautiful part of the memories she leaves behind.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Donna; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and her lifelong friend, Jo.

She is preceded in death by her son Ted Reeves, Jr.; and her brother, Donald McPherson.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Shirley will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, October 9, 2026, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home in Lancaster, SC, officiated by Dr. Warren Forster.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 9:00 to 10:00 am, on Friday at Burgess Funeral Home.
