WAXHAW, NC ~ Shirley A. Minor, age 76, was called home to our Lord in the quiet morning hours of November 10, 2023, in Waxhaw, NC.  She was born on June 10, 1947 at March Field Air Force Base, Riverside, CA.

She was the Gold Star daughter of Asa Lawrence Law (USAF, WWII and Korea) and Uarda Marlene Smith Suter.  She attended Adamson High School in Dallas and faithfully served with Wycliffe Bible Translators from 1974 to 1998 as Associate Regional Director in the South-Central Duncanville, TX, office and traveled globally providing training for missionaries.  Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, William Yonkey; daughter, Karyn Cullis (Peter) of Raleigh, NC; step-daughters, Kelley Yonkey of Charlotte, NC, and Kristi Rhinehart (Asa) of Sierra Vista, AZ; granddaughters, Kaleen Durham of Charlotte, NC, Kaitlyn O'Boyle of Spartanburg, SC, Destinee Augeson (Eric) of Oceanside, CA; grandson, Ryn Durham of Sarasota, FL; and great-grandson, Kolton Tex Augeson of Oceanside, CA.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Lloyd Lawrence Durham; and her older sister, Beverly.

Shirley's life has had a deeply profound impact on her family and her many dear and close friends alike.  Shirley's entire life was a true and unique testament of creativity, warmth and caring.  Shirley's memory lives on through the radiant smiles she shared and the joy she brought to all those fortunate enough to know her.  As condolences pour in, the void left by Shirley's absence is palpable. Shirley's unwavering love for animals, especially her cherished dogs, Skylar and Peach, was a great source of happiness for her.

Memorial services to celebrate Shirley's life will be held Saturday, February 10th at 3:00 pm at Burgess Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service allowing loved ones to gather and honor her enduring legacy.
