LANCASTER, SC~ Mrs. Shirley Slack Kooistra, age 75, passed away Friday, August 16, 2019.  Born September 16, 1943 in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Fred Slack and Verna Murray Slack.

Shirley was a missionary with Wycliffe Bible Translators serving for over 30 years in Central and South America. Her love for sharing Jesus with children led her to launch the AWANA program in Colombia. Always passionate about missions, she returned home and volunteered at the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Monroe and the "OneHundredFold" evangelism and church planting ministry.

Lovingly known as Aunt Shirley to young people throughout her life, she enjoyed fishing, riding horses and playing games with her grandkids and friends.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gordon Kooistra; a son, David and his wife, Janice of Waxhaw, NC; a daughter, Sheryl and her husband, Alex McLellan of San Diego, CA; seven grandchildren, Lauren, Dean, Adrianna and Judah Kooistra, Sophia, Moriah and Asher McLellan; and two brothers, Kenneth Slack and his wife, Edith, and Carl Slack and his wife, Karen.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Shirley Kooistra will be 1:30pm Saturday, August 24 ^th , 2019 at New City Church (formerly Church at Charlotte), 2500 Carmel Rd., Charlotte, NC 28226.
