LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Henry Toy McManus, Jr. (Shine), age 83, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021 at MUSC Lancaster.  He lost his battle with COVID 19.  He is able to breath and talk in his heavenly home and is sitting at the feet of Jesus.  Shine was born August 21, 1937 in Lancaster.  He was the oldest son the late Toy McManus and Polly Stacks McManus.  Shine attended Lancaster school, but spent his senior year at Wingate High School.  He went to Wingate to play football.  Shine graduated from Wingate High School in 1957 and Wingate Junior College in 1959.  He was a star football player at Wingate.  Shine served in the United States Army for 2 years and the Army National Guard for 6 years.  He was employed with Bowater for 40 years as Wood Yard and TMP Supervisor.  He was a faithful member of the Gregory YMCA exercising every day except Sunday, as this was a day of rest and attending church.  Shine was a faithful member of White Springs Baptist Church where he was past Chairman of Deacons, taught the Senior Men's Sunday School class, and was Chairman of the Stewardship Committee.

Shine loved his family, especially his grandchildren.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat Ammons McManus; two sons, Joel McManus (Betsy) of Myrtle Beach, and Scott McManus of Lancaster; three grandsons, Kyle, Logan, and Sean; a granddaughter, Sydney; a brother, James McManus (Midge); and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Shine was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Hudson; and two brothers, Joe McManus, and Sam McManus.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of Shine will be 2:00 pm Thursday, February 4, 2021 at White Springs Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Brad Threatt and Rev. Jimmy Jordan.  Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, in the church family ministry center.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Springs Baptist Church, 1249 Grace Ave., Lancaster, SC 29720.  Social distancing will be practiced, and mask are required.
