Obituary

LANCASTER, SC:::::::::::Mrs. Sarah Jones Hayes, age 98, died Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born August 12, 1915 in Marlboro County, the daughter of the late Walter T. Jones and Lizzie Ella McDuffie Jones and was the wife of the late James Clifton Hayes. Sarah loved gardening, her family, and people in general; but above all, she loved her God. She was a charter member of Sonlight Church of the Nazarene and had served in many capacities such as treasurer, Sunday school teacher and the church board.

Mrs. Hayes is survived by two sons; Marion Hayes and Roger Hayes and his wife Anne, and a daughter; Joyce H. Kennington and a close friend, Mark Adams, all of Lancaster, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Hayes and Kenny Clifton Hayes, a brother, Charlie Dwight Jones and a sister, Annie Bounds.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Hayes will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Jerry Branham. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The Family of Mrs. Hayes will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Monday evening, May 26, 2014 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster and suggest memorial contributions be made to Sonlight Church of the Nazarene, 569 Monroe Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
