LANCASTER, SC::::::: Mrs. Sara Kathryn "Kat" Ballard Horton, died Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Carolinas Medical Center. She was born in Lancaster, the daughter of the late Chalmers Ballard and Ola Wilson Ballard and was the wife of the late Thomas Jasper Horton. Mrs. Horton retired from Springs Industries - Customer Service Center and had been a member of Camp Creek United Methodist Church for 75 years. She taught Sunday school and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She loved being a grandmother, enjoyed working as the Welcome Wagon Representative and with the McDonald Green after school program for 15 years. She was adventurous, enjoying the outdoors, kayaking, boating and skiing.

Kat is survived by three daughters, Mitzi Horton Hammond and her husband Ray of Spartanburg, Jeannie Horton and her partner, Roxanne Barron of Tega Cay and Toni Craig Starnes of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Sharon DosSantos and her husband Mike, Karla Hammond, Marshall Hammond, Phillip Thomas Horton, Justin Starnes, Jason Starnes and his wife Heather and one great grandchild, Hope Mackenzy Starnes; her best friend, Mildred Byrd of Lancaster and several nieces and nephews.

Kat was preceded in death by two brothers, William Chalmers "Billy" Ballard and Marion Thomas Ballard and a sister, Peggy Jean Ballard Craig.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Kat will be 3:00 pm Monday, April 27, 2015 at Camp Creek United Methodist Church by Rev. Mike Catoe. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The Family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Sunday evening, April 26, 2015 at Burgess Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Toni Starnes.
