LANCASTER, SC :::::::: Mr. Sam Hatcher, Jr., age 82, died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at his home. He was born July 22, 1930 in Dillon County, SC, the son of the late Sam Hatcher, Sr. and Mary Vindell Hatcher and was the husband of the late Lucille Pate Hatcher. Mr. Hatcher retired from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department as a Detective after 18 years of service and was a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon.
Mr. Hatcher is survived by 3 sons, Richard Hatcher and his wife Jane of Concord, NC, Dennis Hatcher and his wife Karen of Lancaster and Chuck Hatcher and his wife Denise also of Lancaster, a brother, Buddy Hatcher of Dillon, 5 sisters, Elsie Mae Osborne of Tryon, NC, Evelyn Peacock, Jean Hayes, and Mildred Daniels all of Dillon, and Carolyn Bryant of Florence, 5 grandchildren, Anita Robinson, Derrick Hatcher, Scotty Hatcher, Mitchell Hatcher and Melissa Rathel, 4 great grandchildren, Alaina Robinson, Austin Hatcher, Gabe Robinson and Madison Hatcher and 2 step grandchildren, Adam and Derrick Davis.
Mr. Hatcher was preceded in death by 2 sons, Jeffrey Dean Hatcher and Rodger Dale Hatcher, 2 brothers, Doyle Hatcher and Hartley Hatcher and 2 sisters, Frances Barrineau and Gladys Gray.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Hatcher will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church by Rev. Rick Hunter and Rev. Joe Reed. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The Family of Mr. Hatcher will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Monday evening, March 25, 2013 at Hartley Burgess Funeral Home and other times at the home of Chuck Hatcher, 2400 Cambridge Road, Lancaster and suggest memorial contributions to Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, 600 Nichols Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
