Obituary

LANCASTER, SC –Mr. Charles Samuel "Sam" Duncan, age 80, passed away Sunday, November 5, 2023. He was born August 29, 1943, in Lancaster, a son of the late Burke Duncan, Sr. and Iva Steele Duncan and was the loving husband of the late Beverly Hinson Duncan.  Mr. Duncan proudly served and retired from the United States Coast Guard, was a Vietnam Veteran, and also served in the United States Air Force prior to the Coast Guard.  He enjoyed bird watching and watching sports, especially the SC Gamecocks. Storytelling was a wonderful past time for him, and he loved being able to share these with his grandchildren who he kept before they all went to school. Mr. Duncan was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.

Mr. Duncan is survived by his son, Joseph Duncan (Amy); two daughters, Betsy Vick (Jason) and Charlene Blackmon (Brad); nine grandchildren, Samantha Self, Kristopher Self, Jadon Broughton (Andrew), Andrew Duncan, Grayson Vick, Delanee Vick, Aubrie Blackmon, Talen Blackmon, and Zaine Blackmon; two great grandchildren, Skylen Pate and Kingston Pate; three brothers, Butch Duncan, Mack Duncan (Hattie), and Richard Duncan; three sisters, Diane Sistare (Robert), Debbie Snipes (Ken), and Betty Sue Sims; brother-in-law, Paul Walters; sister-in-law, Brenda Hinson; many nieces and nephews; and many great friends.

He was preceded in death by wife, Beverly Duncan; his daughter, Kimberly Self; his parents; two brothers, Don Duncan and Lum Duncan; a sister, Bobbie Jean Walters; brother-in-law, Wayne Sims; and sister-in-law, Betty Duncan.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Duncan will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Hopewell United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Renee Garrison. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, PO Box #91891, Washington, D.C. 20090​ – 1891.
