LANCASTER, SC –Mr. Roddey B. Ghent, age 89, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2024. He was born, June 5, 1934, in Lancaster, a son of the late Benjamin Franklin Ghent and Lillie Haire Ghent and was the loving husband of the late Ann Adams Ghent. Mr. Ghent served our country in the United States Air Force for 21 years. He was a security supervisor and a drill instructor. He was a people's person and enjoyed helping others. He was a member of Camp Creek Baptist Church since 1958. He served as head deacon, took mission trips, Sunday School Director and teacher, and also served as the Chairman of the cemetery committee for many years. Mr. Ghent enjoyed fishing and camping and while in the Air Force he enjoyed bowling. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Mr. Ghent is survived by a daughter, Tressa Ghent Howle; six grandchildren, Carla Coye (John), Tabitha Reynolds (Mike), Johnathan Ghent (Keely), Jessica -Faith Howle, Brittany Ghent and Angel Ghent; eight great grandchildren, Madison Reynolds, Hannah Coye, Austin Ghent, Raylee Ghent, Madelyn Coye, Trenton Ghent, Hunter Rae Reynolds and Tristen Ghent; and a brother, David F. Ghent.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years; Ann Ghent; a daughter, Elaine Ghent; six brothers; and three sisters.
The Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Camp Creek Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Dr. Reggie Parker and Dr. Trent McLaughlin. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, in the church sanctuary. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 1734 Antioch Church Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720.
