FORT MILL, SC – Mr. Robert "Sonny" Lafayette Grier, age 89, passed away Monday, July 29, 2024. He was born July 14, 1935, in Lancaster, SC, a son of the late Rev. Grover Cleveland Grier and Elizabeth Willie Stroud Grier. Mr. Grier proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years. He loved his country and loved the time he spent in the military. He was a friendly, fun-loving person who never met a stranger and made sure everyone was included. He loved to laugh, joke around, and just have fun. Mr. Grier was a wonderful father and grandfather who adored his children. He was a member of Second Baptist Church Lancaster.

Mr. Grier is survived by his two daughters, Robin Burnham and Rebecca Cook; grandson, Matthew Brandon Burnham; three brothers, William "Bill" Grier (Brenda), Wesley Grier (Rosalyn), and Marshall Grier; three sisters, Barbara Ann Hefley (James), Sandra Carnes, and Susan Maciaricello (Bob); a sister-in-law, Janice Grier; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Brett Cook; parents, Grover and Elizabeth Grier; brother, T.R. Grier; and three sisters, Jettie Caskey, Bonnie Galloway, and Edria Payne.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Grier will be 11:00 am Saturday, August 3, 2024, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Mr. Wesley Grier. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home.
