INDIAN LAND, SC ~ Mr. Robert "Bob" Bruce Riegel, age 84, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019 at his home. He was born December 27, 1934 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Donald Riegel and Marguerite Soars Riegel and was the husband of Barbara Comerford Riegel. Mr. Riegel loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He also enjoyed sailing and taught many to sail in Annapolis, Maryland. Mr. Riegel was adept in learning and speaking foreign languages, this came easy to him. He was an avid reader and loved classical music, as well as, country. Mr. Riegel was the family historian and genealogist. He belonged to Civitan's of New Bern, NRA and ELCA Lutheran Church. Mr. Riegel served his country in the United States Navy and Navy Reserves. He received his associate degree from Temple University. Mr. Riegel taught at the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO, University of Vancouver, Penn State University, and Naval Post Graduate School. Mr. Riegel was employed with the National Security Agency for 36 years as an Atmospheric Physicist and lived in Japan and Germany during his employment. He was a member of Crossroads Lutheran Church.
Mr. Riegel is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara Riegel; a son, David W. Riegel of Lutherville, MD; a step-son, Stephen Roman and his wife, Anne Marie Osgood of Burbank, CA; two daughters, Kimberly Riegel Johnson and her husband, Jeff of Mont Vernon, NH and Cynthia Ann Riegel of Chambersburg, PA; a step-daughter, Elaine Roman and her husband, Matt Saaks of Boulder, CO; seven grandchildren, Jacqueline Foster, Ryan Foster, Emma Riegel, Cameron Riegel, Taman Saaks, Zadie Saaks, and Skylar Roman; and two brothers, Donald R. Riegel and his wife, Roberta "Bobbie" of Wilmington, NC and Dr. Charles S. Riegel and his wife, Violet of Greenville, DE.
Mr. Riegel is preceded in death by his parents.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Riegel will be 11:00 am, Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Crossroads Lutheran Church, 8511 Shelley Mullis Rd, Indian Land, SC, officiated by Rev. Josh Tucker. A reception/luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to the Crossroads Lutheran Church, 8511 Shelley Mullis Rd, Indian Land, SC 29707.
