LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Richard "Dick" Earl Wheaton, age 72, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at his home.  He was born May 24, 1946 in Newark, NY, a son of the late Damon D. Wheaton and Onalee Powers Wheaton.  Mr. Wheaton was an entrepreneur and business owner.  He was the owner and operator of Arcadia Sports and Awards in New York, where he made trophies, memorabilia, and screen-printing.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, planting flowers, decorating and carpentry work.  He was an avid sports fan, loved watching all sports and also coached basketball and baseball.  Mr. Wheaton was very active in his community in Newark, where he volunteered at Alex Eligh Community Center and with the Newark Basketball Booster Club.

Mr. Wheaton is survived by a son, Rick Wheaton and his wife, Amy of Marvin, NC; a daughter, Melissa Vanderbrook of Waxhaw, NC; a brother, John Wheaton of Winter Park, FL; and four grandchildren, Drew Vanderbrook, Jake Wheaton, Abby Wheaton, and Delaney Wheaton.

Mr. Wheaton is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Valerie Warren Wheaton; and his parents.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Wheaton will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alex Eligh Community Center, PO Box 43, Newark, NY 14513.
