Obituary

LANCASTER, SC::::::::::: Mr. Richard Allen Walters, age 93, died Wednesday, September 30, 2015. He was born May 14, 1922 in Lancaster County, a son of the late James Ellison Walters and Rosetta Deese Walters and was the husband of Nancy Taylor Walters. Mr. Walters was a car salesman and a farmer. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and farming. He served our great country in the United States Army during World War II and was a prisoner of war. Mr. Walters was recently presented a 60 year pen from the Jackson Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Jackson Shrine Club and a member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Walters was a leader of the Boy Scout Troupe 77 and a member of Lynnwood United Methodist Church.

Mr. Walters was survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy Taylor Walters; a son, Ronald A. Walters and his wife Allison of Charleston; a daughter, Carol Walters Hicks and her husband Greg of Lexington; five grandchildren, Turner, Taylor and John Thomas Walters of Charleston, Jillian Walters of Lancaster and Kathryn Hicks of Lexington; and a sister, Mary Ellen Adams of Lancaster.

Mr. Walters was preceded in death by two sons, Lieutenant Richard Edwin Walters and Julian Ellison Walters; three brothers; Vander, Lawson and Kelly Walters, six sisters; Mae Roberts, Lillie Bass, Rachel Teno, Doris Catoe, Ruth Langston, and Eva White.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Walters will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 2, 2015 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Betty Kay Hudson. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The Family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am Friday, October 2, 2015 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster and suggest in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Lynnwood United Methodist Church, 1753 Lynwood Drive, Lancaster, SC or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
