LEXINGTON, SC ~ Dr. Richard Ronald (Ron) Lifsey passed away November 16, 2017 at Agape Hospice House in Lexington, SC. He was born in Griffin, GA, a son of the late Tee and Myrt Lifsey. Ron was an officer in the United States Air Force from 1962-1974 and served in the Vietnam War. Ron was a teacher before serving in the military, and after the war ended, he returned to education. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Georgia Teachers College; a Masters in Education from Georgia Southern College; and an Ed. S. in Educational Administration and a Doctorate from the University of Alabama. Ron taught school in Albany, GA and Savannah, GA. He was a principal at High Hills Middle School and at Furman High School in Sumter, SC. He was also a principal at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, SC. After retiring in South Carolina, he worked as a teacher in Monroe, NC and Charlotte, NC. Ron was a Mason, a Red Cross Volunteer, and a member of the Lancaster Lions Club.
Ron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Arlene; two sons, Michael H. Lifsey and his wife, Melissa of Chester and Matthew R. Lifsey and his wife, Dea of Columbia; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Lifsey, Matthew Morgan Lifsey and Ransome Carlisle Lifsey; two brothers, Wayne Lifsey and Wendell Lifsey; and several nieces and nephews.
Ron was predeceased by a brother, Jerry Lifsey.
A memorial service for Ron will be held at 11:00 am Monday, November 27, 2017 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Curtis Cameron. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Epworth Childrens Home, 2900 Milwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205 or Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 1005 University Drive, Lancaster, SC 29720.
