LANCASTER, SC :::::::::: Richard Chandler, age 72, of 1044 Lyndon Drive, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 surrounded by family and friends. He was born August 2, 1937 in Lancaster County, the son of the late Samuel F. Chandler and Faye Bowers Chandler Hamilton and was the husband of Judy Estes Chandler. Mr. Chandler had been in the collision repair business in Lancaster County for more than 50 years. He retired as the owner and operator of Richard Chandler's Collision Center a few years ago and turned the business over to his sons and loyal employees. He served his country for 16 years in the Army Reserves and as the Coroner for Lancaster County for 16 years. He also served as the past president of Dixie Boys and on the Lancaster Recreation Commission. In the 1970's and early 1980's his business sponsored a men's softball team that played over much of North and South Carolina. He was an avid, loyal Gamecock fan as well as had a passion for the Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves baseball teams. He was a member of Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church, enjoyed playing golf with his special friends, and deeply enjoyed Lake Wateree, his home and friends there. Mr. Chandler is survived by his wife Judy Chandler of the home; 4 children in whom he was extraordinarily proud of, Rick Chandler, Susan Baker and her husband David, Jeffrey Chandler and Jason Chandler all of Lancaster, 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth Baker and Anne Baker, and his faithful sister, Glenda Westmoreland and her husband Joe of Charlotte. The Graveside Service and Burial for Mr. Chandler will be 9:30 am, Thursday morning, August 27, 2009 at Lancaster Memorial Park with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 11:00 am at The Lakeside Pavilion - Windward Pointe, 62 Nautical Drive, Camden, SC by Dr. Eugene Rollins. The Family of Mr. Chandler will receive friends from 6:00- 8:00 pm, Wednesday evening, August 26, 2009 at Hartley Funeral Home and other times at the home.
