LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Phyllis Catledge Plyler, age 82, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023. She was born January 21, 1941, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late James Catledge and Essie Wilson Catledge and was the wife of Jerry Roland Plyler. Mrs. Plyler received her master's in nursing, and she proudly served her country in the United States Army Reserves serving as a nurse. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, going to the mountains, painting, and knitting. Mrs. Plyler was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where in earlier years enjoyed singing in the choir.

Mrs. Plyler is survived by her husband of 13 years, Jerry Plyler; her daughter, Margaret Anne Griffin (Tommy) of Calabash, NC; two step-sons, Tracy Plyler and Dean Plyler (Renee) both of Lancaster; four step-daughters, Brenda Buchanan (Donald) of Georgia; Sandy Ackerman of Lancaster, Vadene Echols of Ladson, SC; and Abbe Adams (Reggie) of Lancaster; two grandchildren, April Frost (Paul) and Amy Noles; two great grandchildren, Rowan Frost and Gavin Frost; two step-grandchildren, Madison Adams and Chloe Adams; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband of 33 years, Vaid Helms; her parents; two brothers, James Catledge, Jr. and Howard Catledge; and a sister, Mary Bigham.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Plyler will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Trent McLaughlin. Burial will follow at Camp Creek Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 am - 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorials may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 1734 Antioch Church Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
