LANCASTER, SC – Mrs. Phebe Ann Dew Carnes, age 86, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024. She was born June 15, 1938 in Sanford, NC to the late Herndon Tuttle Dew and the late Cora Smithwick Dew and was the wife of the late Jack Ferral Carnes. Mrs. Carnes was such a bright light. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church; she loved her church, her church family, and teaching the children of the church. Mrs. Carnes was a beautiful seamstress, she could sew anything and sewed many special gifts including baby blankets, and her daughter's wedding dress. She enjoyed working in the yard, farming, and working in the garden.

Mrs. Carnes is survived by her daughter, Anne Carnes Briggs (Spencer); four grandchildren, Kevin Summers (Brittany), Wess Briggs (Fiancée Chloe Blackmon), Jesse Briggs, and Trace Briggs; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Aubrey Summers; her sister, Mildred Averitt; and a special niece who was more like a sister, Tanya Brothers.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her two sons, Jack Ferral Carnes, Jr., and Jack Carey Carnes; her daughter, Becky Carnes Sanders (Tim); three brothers, Bob Dew, Walter Dew, and JR Dew; and four sisters, Mary Herndon, Betty Brown, Gladys Story, and Marguerite Ormand.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Carnes will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Bethlehem Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Patrick Blackmon and Rev. Jason Myers. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Monday, October 7, 2024 at Burgess Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 N Rocky River Rd Lancaster, SC 29720.
