IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Peter
Pickerill
August 6, 1944 – July 18, 2020
FORT MILL, SC ~ On Saturday, July 18 th , 2020, Peter Jeremy William Pickerill, passed away at Pineville Hospital, Charlotte, NC in his 75th year and much too soon. Peter ultimately succumbed to a stroke, the result of a long battle with prostate cancer.
Peter was born August 6 th , 1944 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, to William Pickerill and Olive Goodman. He could have told you countless stories of hardship growing up, but he was determined to make sure his family had every opportunity. That family started when he met Heather, the love of his life, and on October 25 th , 1969, they were married and moved to Canada to begin their new life together. That life was built on a loving partnership that included more house (and country) moves than most; they were best friends for more than 50 years. They raised 3 children, Lise, Jason, and Joseph who survive him, five wonderful grandchildren, a brother in Yorkshire (Phillip, Marian and family) and wonderful friends in Canada, the U.S., UK and Australia. He worked very hard his whole life, receiving his Master's degree in engineering and MBA from McGill University in Montreal. Peter retired from MSA international as President of MSA Canada and later as Managing Director of MSA Australia and Director, Asia-Pacific.
He enjoyed traveling, golfing, fishing, dancing, visiting his children and grandchildren across the globe, and having a martini with his wife whilst playing scrabble and RumiKub. He had a wide range of music interests and loved listening to opera (especially Puccini) as well as The Rolling Stones and Otis Redding. Peter and Heather loved visiting their grandchildren together and would pack suitcases filled to the brim with new games and adventures. He loved playing chess with them, teaching them to fish and having tea parties with his granddaughter. Sometimes the grandchildren just loved watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and would try to guess the answers with him. He was the very definition of a gentle-man and just a lovely person and lived life to the fullest.
He left this earth before his time and before we were ready. Peter wished to be cremated. The funeral service will be private for immediate family.
