Obituary

KERSHAW, SC – Mr. Perry Michael Slayton, Sr. age 64, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2024, at his home. He was born September 1, 1959, a son of the late Robert Franklin Slayton and the late Mary Cleveland Slayton and was the loving husband of Paula Roddey Slayton. Perry proudly served in The United States Army Special Forces for six years. He was currently employed as an agent with State Farm in Great Falls, SC.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and cherished member of his community. His life was a testament to love, service, and deep appreciation for the beauty of family bonds. Perry served with honor as a US Army Green Beret, embodying bravery and dedication, evident in his 8-year battle with cancer. He was a warrior that loved life and lived every day to the fullest. Born and raised in Trion, he was a Georgia boy through and through. Though he loved his life here in SC, we just could never get our peaches or college football right. His alma mater, the University of Georgia, held a special place in his heart, where he proudly graduated and passionately supported the Bulldogs every football season, cheering, "Go Dawgs!" His love for sports was matched only by his passion for fishing and caring for his animals. Perry's small farm was a testament to his love for all animals, where he spent countless hours enjoying the outdoors with his favorite music always blaring. Perry's skill in horticulture was an escape where he could find solace in the beauty of nature. His garden was his sanctuary, meticulously cared for and cherished. Holidays were always special for Perry, where he delighted in creating magical moments with elaborate decorations that brought joy to all who visited, often leaving you to question, who is Clark Griswold anyway? His festive spirit and attention to detail made every gathering a cherished memory for family and friends alike.

Perry will be remembered for his resilience in the face of any challenge; his unwavering love for his family and friends, and his ability to make every moment special. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know and love him. To know him was to love him.

"The time has come. To go our separate ways. And it's alright if you wanna cry. Though I know we'll meet again someday" -Kenny Chesney-

Perry is survived by his wife of  32 years, Paula Slayton; his four children, Heather Slayton Staton (Jeremy), Amanda Slayton Burke (Jeremy), Portia Barnes Knight (Blake), and Perry "Michael" Slayton, Jr.; eleven grandchildren, Aubrey, Addie, Jagger, Judson, Racquel, Pepper, Reed, Sawyer, Hartley, Delainey, and Graham; his brother, Bobby Wayne Slayton; his two sisters, Barbara Slayton Penland, and Nancy Slayton Blackmon (David); and many special family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Slayton.
