LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Perry Edward Greene, Sr., 88, passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019. He was born on May 7, 1930 to Nettie Faulkenberry Greene and John Jasper Greene of Lancaster County.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Clark Greene; son, Perry E. "Eddie" Greene, Jr.; daughter in law, Robin Greene; five grandchildren, Matthew and Adam Greene of Greenville, SC, D. J. Fogle, Grace Greene of Rock Hill and Kristi Pace of Fort Mill; three great grandchildren, Kody Fogle, Tyler Pace and Violet Fogle of Rock Hill; and five sisters, Willie Bowers of Camden, Eula Roberts of Rock Hill, Mildred Crimminger of Florence, Shelby Crimminger of Summerville, and Katheryn Madden of Kershaw. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ethel Payne, Gladys Arant, Anne Gordon, Jane Bowers and a brother, Coleman Green.
Perry served two years in the United States Army serving in England during the Korean Conflict. He attended school in the Flat Creek community. He retired from Springs Industries after 44 years of service. Perry was a loyal, conscientious and hard worker. His core values were "do unto others" and be faithful doing his very best at all times.
Perry loved his family and was a man who was a very good listener, always in the background while encouraging his family to stay in the limelight. Perry was a silent worker in his church, High Point Baptist Church. He was loyal to the members and was a "silent prayer warrior".
Perry loved music and taught his son guitar. He loved senior groups and belonged to the Springs Club for six years and was a member of the Oasis Club of First Baptist Church in Lancaster. He loved to travel and take vacations with the senior groups. He also loved wood work and made many pieces of furniture. In spite of illnesses, he was a determined person to overcome the bad by looking for the best. He will be missed by all who knew him. He had intellectual depth and strength of character, kindness and generosity for family and friends.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Perry will be 2:00 pm Friday, January 18, 2019 at High Point Baptist Church by Rev. Billy Belk, Rev. Bobby Joyner, and Rev. Todd Montgomery. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday evening, January 17, 2019 at Burgess Funeral Home and suggest memorial contributions be made to High Point Baptist Church, 1888 Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
