LANCASTER, SC :::::::: Mr. Paul Emery Pless, age 87, died Friday, February 14, 2014 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born May 28, 1926 in Concord, NC, the son of the late Henry Luther Pless and Ezella Mae Hathcock Pless and was the husband of the late Mattie Sowell Pless. Mr. Pless owned and retired from Sowell's Rental Agency, served as treasurer of Boy Scout Troop # 71 and was an active member of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He was a member of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Men's Club. Mr. Pless served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Pless is survived by two daughters, Paula Pless Williams and her husband Dan of Greenville, SC and Janet Pless Ballard and her husband Chris of Lancaster, a sister, Evelyn Pless Raye and her husband James of Concord, NC, and three grandchildren, Daniel Williams, Kristen Ballard and Joseph Ballard.
Mr. Pless was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe, Henry, John, and Warren Pless and two sisters, Blanche Ramseur and May Baker.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Pless will be 11:00 am Monday, February 17, 2014 at First United Methodist Church by Rev. Charles Phillips. Burial with Military Rites will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The Family of Mr. Pless will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Sunday, February, 16, 2014 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster and suggest memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 608, Lancaster, SC 29721.
