Obituary

FORT LAWN, SC :::::::: Mr. Paris McRay "Shorty" Caskey, Sr., age 91, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Lancaster Convalescent Center due to complications from a fall. He was born October 13, 1922 in Lancaster, the son of the late William Orr Caskey and Leila McAteer Caskey and was the husband of the late Sally Mims Caskey. Shorty was the retired owner/operator of P.M. Caskey Construction which he opened in the early 60's. He built churches, restaurants and many homes. He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion. Shorty took great pride in his military service having served in the United States Army during World War II along with his three brothers, the late Orall, Herman and Walter Caskey, which was very unusual because he was the 4th son. He owned race cars and enjoyed racing. One of his greatest enjoyments in life was farming and gardening. He loved and collected classic cars. Music and dancing were a joy in his life. He was very proud of his nephew, Dr. Wayne Caskey, and his concert piano/organ accomplishments. He and his family were lifetime members of Shiloh ARP Church.

Mr. Caskey is survived by three sons, Ron O. Caskey and his wife Grace of Hartsville, Paris Caskey, Jr. of Lancaster, Bryan Kent Caskey and his wife Stacie of Fort Lawn, two daughters, Gail Crump, Sue Clawson and her husband Coy both of Lancaster, a sister, Marie Montgomery of Aiken, SC, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Sudie Ashley Caskey, a grandson, Phil Rape and his sisters, Faye Faulkenberry and Leona Montgomery.

A Service of Remembrance for Mr. Caskey will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 19, 2014 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Rex Faile. Burial will follow in Shiloh ARP Church Cemetery.

The Family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Friday, April 18, 2014 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster and suggest memorial contributions be made to Shiloh ARP Church Cemetery Fund, 346 Shiloh Unity Road, Lancaster, SC 29720. They would like to express their thanks to the staff of the Lancaster Convalescent Center, Springs Memorial Hospital, Dr. Makhuli and Dr. O'Malley for the compassionate care they provided.

The Family will be at the home of his daughter, Gail Crump, 390 Montgomery Road, Lancaster.
