Obituary

Orville (Orv) Johnson passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at his home in Indian Land, SC.  He was 92 years old. Orv was a loving husband, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, an uncle and a friend to so many. He was a true gentleman who leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.

Orv was born on March 15, 1930 in Flint, MI, and raised in Bear Lake, MI. He married the love of his life, Betty Johnson, on December 29, 1950. They were married for 71 years. They raised their family in Miami, FL and Bear Lake, MI.  Orv served in the U.S. Army as an Engineer during the Korean War. Orv was a master craftsman who was fascinated with construction. He built entire homes and enjoyed working on countless home improvement projects for clients, friends and family. He leaves behind many handmade treasures that will forever be cherished. In 1996, he retired and enjoyed many years with his wife in Bluffton, SC where they traveled the world and made numerous friends along the way.

Orv was a gentle soul, who loved golf and was always rooting for his favorite sports team or race car driver. He was the best storyteller and shared all of his adventures throughout his life. He always had a funny story to tell, and loved sharing these with others over a game of cards.   And no matter the game being played, he loved to remind everyone that "it's a simple game!".

Orv left behind a strong legacy of family, who was always the most important to him.   He was predeceased by his loving spouse, Betty Johnson, as well as his parents and siblings. He is survived by his three children. A son, Steven (Angie) of Henderson, NV and 2 daughters, Kathleen (Stuart) Schmied and Pamela (Wayne) Richmond, both from Indian Land, SC. Orv also leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and his dog, Taylor.

Orville and Betty wanted their ashes spread together in the place they fell in love. Their wishes will be honored in a private, family setting at a later date. If you want to honor them, please have a margarita and a cigar!
