LANCASTER, SC:::::::::::Mrs. Ola Edith Cunningham Steele, born June 6, 1917, passed away on December 1, 2013 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Mody Cunningham and Barbara Snipes Cunningham and was the wife of the late Odell Plyler Steele, Sr. Mrs. Steele was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church where she served her Lord in many capacities. Sure in her faith and willing to give of her time; she held strong convictions as a Baptist, by birth and a Methodist by marriage. She was active with the Youth program and United Methodist Women at Hopewell serving terms in various offices of responsibility. Her love of music remained with her until her last days on earth. Many years as a member of the choir at Hopewell brought fond memories of great times of fellowship and fun! Her talent for baking was renowned and profited the church on many occasions when her cakes were anticipated. She willingly gave of her time, talents, and opinions! Her broad, quick smile and determined spirit will be missed.
Mrs. Steele is survived by her four children; William H. Steele (Tina) of Lancaster, Barbara Douglas of Clayton, NC, Joan Brandt (Tom) of Niceville, FL and Odell Plyler Steele, Jr. (Betsy) of Lancaster. She was blessed with wonderful grandchildren; Michael Steele (Kimberly), Teri S. Hamilton (Barry), Danny Shearin, Tessa Wiggins (Rusty), Kevin D. Douglas (Teresa), Ginger D. Tuck (Kurt), Charlotte Anne S. DeMelfi (Mike), Marshall O. Steele (Amanda); ten great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren and one brother, Ralph Cunningham (Shirley) of Hickory, NC.
Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by a grandchild, LaDonna Steele Scholl, and six siblings; Louise Steele, Marion Barr, Annie Bell Clark, Gene Cunningham, Mody Cunningham, and Walter Cunningham.
The Celebration of Life Graveside Funeral Service for Mrs. Steele will be 11:00 am, Wednesday December 4, 2013 at Hopewell United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. Steve Patterson and Rev. David Inman.
The Family of Mrs. Steele will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and the family suggests memorials be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church, 3734 Heyward Hough Road, Lancaster, SC 29720 or Hospice of SC, 412 N. White Street Suite A, Lancaster SC 29720.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Morningside of Lancaster, Heath Springs Residential Care Center and Hospice of South Carolina, in addition to Sheryl Febes and Effie Deese for the care and love shown to "Ms. Ola" .
