LANCASTER, SC:::::::::::: Mr. Noel McKay Hurley, Sr., age 84, died Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born January 7, 1932 in Montgomery County, NC, a son of the late William Keplar Hurley and Margaret Janet Trogdon Hurley and was the husband of Ann Maness Hurley. Mr. Hurley and Ann were both graduates of Troy High School in Troy, NC. Mr. Hurley attended Pfeiffer University and was a 1958 graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a degree in Chemistry. He also received a Masters Degree in Microbiology from Clemson University in 1968. He retired from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control as the Bureau Chief of Environmental Laboratories. He was a life member of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC). He served in many capacities in both organizations including representing WEASC as a WEF Director in the late 1980s. He served our country in the United States Army and served as a medic in the Korean Conflict and recently received the Korean War Service Medal. Mr. Hurley was a very active member of Douglas Presbyterian Church serving as Elder, Sunday school teacher, choir member and served as secretary/treasurer of the Mens Club for 50 years.
Mr. Hurley is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann Maness Hurley; a daughter, Janet Hurley Cann and her husband, Mark of Spartanburg; two sons, Noel M. Hurley, Jr. and his wife, Kelly of Chapin and Keplar Hurley of Lancaster; three brothers, James Boyce Hurley and his wife, Audrey of Troy, NC, Phillip Hurley and his wife, Brenda and Wayne Hurley and his wife, Joretta; a sister in law, Sue Hurley all of Star, NC; a sister, Mildred Yongue and her husband, Douglas of Laurinburg, NC; and six grandchildren, Kathryne Hurley, Mark Cann, Jr., William Hurley, Betsy Cann, Noel Hurley III and Anna Hurley.
Mr. Hurley was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Hurley and Gene Hurley.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Hurley will be 2:00 pm Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Douglas Presbyterian Church by Rev. Dr. Harriss Ricks and Rev. Brian Barton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The Family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall and suggest memorial contributions be made to Douglas Presbyterian Church, 2325 Sunday Place, Lancaster, SC 29720 or a charity or organization of ones choice.
