Obituary

LANCASTER, SC::::::::::: Mrs. Nezzie Woody Ashley Nisbet passed away on Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 at her home. She was born December 17, 1914, the daughter of the late Nathaniel Byrk Woody and Maude Randolph Woody. She was married to Raymond Ferris Ashley. She came to Charlotte in 1942. During her time in Charlotte, she was active in the First Methodist Church. After the passing of her husband, she would later move to Van Wyck, SC and married the late John E. Nisbet, Jr. She was a founding member of Van Wyck Presbyterian Church, a church she loved dearly, and was on the Board of Trustees. She served as president of the Women's Group and worked for many years in the youth groups. She was also kitchen hostess for several years, enjoyed singing in the choir, and providing floral arrangements from her garden for the church sanctuary. Mrs. Nisbet was active in the Lancaster County Farm Bureau Auxiliary and Red Rose Book Club, and held positions with both state and government during her life.

Nezzie was a wonderful mother, a cherished grandmother and great grandmother.
She loved preparing meals for her family and friends both at home and in church, baking cakes that delighted everyone, especially her granddaughters. She is survived by her son Richard A. Ashley and his wife, Jane Bryant Ashley, her granddaughters Mary Bryant Ashley and Erin Ashley Chapman, her daughter Joanne Thomas and her children, Jeffrey Christopher Coppala, Eric Coppala, and Susan Coppala along with fourteen great grandchildren, including Sarah Lauren Jackson, her beloved caretaker.

Her husbands Raymond F. Ashley and John E. Nisbet, Jr preceded her in death and she was the last remaining of her ten siblings.

The Family visitation will be 10:00 am Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Trinity Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Van Wyck, SC followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00am. Internment will be private.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church in Van Wyck, SC or Hospice Community Care of Rock Hill, SC.

The Family visitation will be 10:00 am Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Trinity Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Van Wyck, SC followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00am. Internment will be private.
