LANCASTER, SC :::::::::::Mrs. Nellie "Nell" Geneva Sowell Martin, age 89, died February 15, 2013 at her home. She was born June 19, 1923 in Lancaster County, the daughter of the late Ernest Clifton Sowell and Dicie Gardner Sowell and was the wife of the late Stamey Albert Martin. Mrs. Martin retired from Springs Industries and was an avid visitor to the residents of Lancaster Convalescent Center. Mrs. Martin was also a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faithful Saints Sunday School Class and the Young at Heart.
Mrs. Martin is survived by 2 sons, Ronnie A. Martin of Lancaster, Gary L. Martin and his wife Kate of Manning, SC, a daughter, Janice Stewart and her husband Millon of Lexington, SC, 2 brothers, Paul Sowell of Lancaster and Jim Sowell and his wife Sandy of Heath Springs, 3 sisters, Maxine Roberts of Kershaw, Ann Knight and her husband Thomas of Stanley, NC, and Molly Wallace of Lancaster, 7 grandchildren;Lisa, Gwen, Susan, Scott, Gamble, Amelia, and Lewis, 8 great grandchildren; Ashley, Candace, Kaitlin, Drew, Regan, Kyle, Connor and Colby and 2 great-great grandchildren; Lexan and Wylder.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by a brother Curtis Sowell, and 3 sisters, Eva Turner, Azilee Workman, and Kat Adams.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Martin will be 3:00 pm Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Immanuel Baptist Church by Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Scott Stewart, Lewis Martin, Phillip Melton, Jonathan Wallace, Dennis Roberts and Mike Roberts.
The Family of Mrs. Martin will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary and they suggest memorials be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, ll52 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
