LANCASTER, SC::::::::::: Mrs. Nell Steele Carter, age 91, died Sunday, July 24, 2016 at White Oak Manor. She was born May 7, 1925 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Ganson Steele and Lena Pardue Steele and the wife of the late Lewis Franklin Carter. Mrs. Carter was a hairdresser and the owner of Nells Beauty Shop for over 40 years. She enjoyed gardening, working in her flowers, quilting, cooking, and baking cakes. She loved her family and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Carter is survived by two sons, Richard L. Carter and his wife, Kelsie of Lancaster and Wayne G. Carter and his wife, Nan of Lake Wateree; a brother, Billy Steele and his wife, Iris; a sister, Marie Crawford both of Lancaster; five grandchildren, Richard Carter, Jr. and his wife, Jenise, Rebecca Evens and her husband, Richard, Wayne Carter, Jr. and his spouse, Bart Montgomery, Scott Carter and his wife, Betsy, and Sterlyn Campbell; eight great grandchildren, Max Funderburk, Robbie Carter, Hilah Carter-Stead, Josh Evens, Nicholas Evens, Caige Carter, Talen Carter and Trey Campbell; and one great-great grandchild, Aleigha Evens.

Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachel Funderburk and two sisters, Helen Jones and Mary Williford.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Carter will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Edgar McCall and Rev. Rich Carter. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 1:00 2:00 pm, at the church and suggest memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
