Obituary

LANCASTER, SC Mr. Ned Horace Funderburk, 86, went to be with His Savior on December 22, 2016, at White Oak of Lancaster. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be conducted at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home on Monday, December 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at Lancaster Memorial Park.

He was born December 4, 1930 and was the youngest son of the late Jerry Claude and Lou Carnes Funderburk of the Tradesville community. He attended Wingate College and Clemson University. He was a retired building construction instructor with the Lancaster Vocational School. He was also co-owner of Funderburk Interiors, member of the Jackson Lodge #53 and of the Hejaz Shrine, as well as the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce. Ned was baptized in the Baptist church and it was there he grew up obtaining his love for missions. He served as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He also served on the building committee, was a member of the church choir, and numerous other committees.

He spent many of his vacations taking the youth to retreats at Ridgecrest Baptist Assembly and on several choir tours. He led mission work camps for 14 years for the New York Baptist Association in Manhattan and Syracuse, NY. He was active in the Helping Hands Ministry and Samaritans Purse as long as he was able. He worked with Habitat for Humanity locally and in New York, Georgia, and North Carolina. While in Milwaukee, WI, Jimmy Carter, former US President chose Ned to be the foreman on the house he himself was working on. He also received the Outstanding Service Award from the Breakfast Rotary in 1990. Ned was instrumental in bringing back bluebirds to South Carolina by handcrafting 4,000 bluebird houses for Bowater Corporation. Neds life was his work, helping others, loving and caring for his family. He always served the Lord to the best of his ability. At his death, he was a member of Covenant Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 66 wonderful and loving years, Bobbi; their son, Chuck Funderburk, and his wife, Lynn, of Lancaster SC; their daughter, Cindi Funderburk Lowder, and her husband, Patrick, of Matthews, NC; three grandchildren, Justin Funderburk, and his wife, Hanna, Anna Funderburk, and Savannah Lowder.
