February 9, 1905 – August 25, 2011
LANCASTER, SC ::::::::::: Mrs. Nardie Baker Wallace, age 106, died Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Stanly Manor in Albemarle, NC. Born February 9, 1905 in Lancaster County, she was the youngest child of the late Rev. Dock Patterson Baker and Missouri Jane Baker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray L. Wallace; her son, Robert Lewis Taylor and her grandson, Robert Gene Taylor. Mrs. Wallace lived independently until she was 100 years old, caring for her home and yard on her own, amazing her neighbors and fellow members at Hyde Park Baptist Church with her determination, optimism and endurance. She retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Hyde Park Baptist Church for 66 years. She also was the last surviving charter member of the Lancaster Senior Citizens Club. During the Second World War she served her country by working in the shipyards in Baltimore, MD. She was proud to be known as one of the "Rosie the Riveter" patriots who helped the war effort.
